Read aloud, Thank You, Mr. Falker, by Patricia Polacco. This is an autobiographical story that thanks and praises teachers who change the lives of children they teach. We will focus on the words used to develop the characters, Mr. Falker and Tricia.The students will be broken into two groups. One group will list characteristics of Mr. Falker, while the other group lists characteristics of Tricia. After five minutes, the groups will switch papers and add more words to the new list. When complete, we will discuss the characters and talk about how we can use word choice in our own stories to help enhance our characters.
